Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and grudgingly spends very little for the cause of God? 34 Is with him the knowledge of the unseen so that he sees? 35 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 And that man hath only that for which he maketh effort, 39 and that in time [the nature of] all his striving will be shown [to him in its true light,] 40 Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete; 41 that all things in the end shall return to God; 42 that it is He who brings laughter and tears; 43 It is He who causes death and gives life. 44 and that it is He who creates the two kinds - the male and the female 45 from a drop of sperm when it was emitted, 46 and that [therefore] it is within His power to bring about a second life; 47 And that He it is Who enricheth and contenteth; 48 And that He only is the Lord of the star Sirius? 49 and that it is He who destroyed the ancient [tribes of] Ad 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace [of them,] 51 and the people of Noah before -- certainly they did exceeding evil, and were insolent 52 And the overturned towns He hurled down 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 Concerning which then, of the bounties of thy Lord, canst thou dispute? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 The Approaching Day has approached. 57 none except Allah can disclose it. 58 Do you marvel then at this discourse (the Koran)? 59 And laugh and not weep? 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
