The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 at the Lote Tree (Sidrat tree) of the ending 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
