۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he asked his father and his people, "What are these images to which you are so devoted?" 52 They replied: 'We found our fathers worshipping them' 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 'No' he answered, 'your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Originator of them, and I am among those bearing witness to it. 56 By Allah, I shall certainly carry out my plan against your gods after you are gone." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) except the biggest of them, that they might turn to it. 58 (When the people came to the temple and saw the broken idols) they asked each other, "Who has done this to our gods? He certainly is an unjust person". 59 Some of them said: "We heard a youth called Abraham speak (ill) of them." 60 Said they: Then bring him before the eyes of the people, perhaps they may bear witness. 61 They said, “Did you do this to our Gods, O Ibrahim?” 62 He replied, "I think the biggest among them has broken the smaller ones. Ask them if they are able to speak". 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they were utterly put to confusion saying, 'Very well indeed thou knowest these do not speak.' 65 He said: 'Would you then worship that, instead of Allah, which can neither help nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 But We said, "Fire! Be cool and a means of safety for Abraham." 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac and, as an additional gift, (a grandson), Jacob, and We made righteous men of every one (of them). 72 And We made them leaders, guiding by Our command; and We revealed unto them the doing of good deeds and the establishment of prayer, and the giving of poor-rate; and of Us they were the worshippers. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
