The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 3 In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect on themselves? Allah created the heavens and the earth and whatever lies between them in Truth and for an appointed term. Yet many people deny that they will meet their Lord. 8 Have they, then, never journeyed about the earth and beheld what happened in the end to those [deniers of the truth] who lived before their time? Greater were they in power than they are; and they left a stronger impact on the earth, and built it up even better than these [are doing]; and to them [too] came their apostles with all evidence of the truth: and so, [when they rejected the truth and thereupon perished,] it was not God who wronged them, but it was they who had wronged themselves. 9 Then evil was the end of those who did evil, because they belied the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, Messengers, etc.) of Allah and made mock of them. 10
