The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or orders piety? 12 Did you consider: what if he gives the lie (to the Truth) and turns away (from it)? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then let him summon his council, 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
