The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great tidings! 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 (the sun) as a shining torch 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 A dwelling place for the Taghun (those who transgress the boundry limits set by Allah like polytheists, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allah, hyprocrites, sinners, criminals, etc.), 22 In which they will remain for ages [unending]. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 but We have placed on record every single thing [of what they did]. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
