Al-Zukhruf 5 of 7
We sent Moses with Our signs to the Pharaoh and his nobles. He said: "I have been sent by the Lord of all the worlds." 46 But when he came to them with Our Signs, behold they ridiculed them. 47 And We did not show them a sign but it was greater than its like, and We overtook them with chastisement that they may turn. 48 (Whenever they faced an affliction) they would say: “O magician, pray for us to your Lord according to your station with Him. We shall certainly be guided to the Right Way.” 49 Then when We had removed from them the torment, behold they were breaking their promise. 50 And Firon proclaimed amongst his people: O my people! is not the kingdom of Egypt mine? And these rivers flow beneath me; do you not then see? 51 Or am I [not] better than this one who is insignificant and hardly makes himself clear? 52 and why have not armlets of gold been bestowed on him and why is there not a train of angels accompanying him?" 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 Then when they displeased Us, We inflicted a retribution on them, so We drowned them all together, 55 And We made them (a people) of the Past and an Example to later ages. 56
