The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heavens are rent asunder 1 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 will be easy, 8 and they will return to their people, delighted 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 that you will certainly pass through one stage after another. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 Nay, (on the contrary), those who disbelieve, belie (Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and whatever he brought, i.e. this Quran and Islamic Monotheism, etc.). 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
