The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of the heaven, and by oath of the nightly arriver. 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star that pierces through [life's] darkness: 3 No human soul but hath a guardian over it. 4 Let the human reflect of what he is created. 5 he has been created out of a seminal fluid 6 Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: 7 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life) 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then will he have no might nor any helper. 10 By the rotating heavens 11 And by the Earth which opens out (for the gushing of springs or the sprouting of vegetation),- 12 this is indeed a Decisive Word, 13 it is no merriment. 14 They are devising guile, 15 and I am devising guile. 16 Let, then, the deniers of the truth have their will: let them have their will for a little while. 17
True are the words of God the Almighty.
End of Surah: The Comet (Al-Taareq). Sent down in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
