The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour is drawing near, and the moon is split (in two). 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 for they are bent on giving it the lie, being always wont to follow their own desires. Yet everything reveals its truth in the end. 3 And certainly some narratives have come to them wherein is prevention-- 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Hastening toward the summoner; the disbelievers say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 Then opened We the gates of heaven with pouring water 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 How terrible then was My punishment and My warning. 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We indeed sent towards them a severe windstorm, on a day the ill luck of which lasted upon them forever. 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
