Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 roasting at a scorching Fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In a high Garden 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it is made a vast expanse? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
