A group of his people who disbelieved him and had called the Day of Judgment a lie and whom We had made prosperous in this life, said, "He is a mere mortal like you. He eats and drinks as you do. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that, after you have died and become [mere] dust and bones, you shall be brought forth [to a new life]? 35 ۞ Away, away with that you are promised! 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 He is nothing but a man who attributes his own lying inventions to God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then after them, We created other generations. 42 No nation can outstrip its term, nor yet postpone it. 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our miracles and clear proofs 45 Unto Pharaoh and his chiefs, but they scorned (them) and they were despotic folk. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves, and their people are obedient to us with humility (and we use them to serve us as we like)." 47 Then they accused them of lies, and joined the company of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, that haply they would be guided; 49 And We made the son of Mary and his mother a portent, and We gave them refuge on a height, a place of flocks and watersprings. 50
