And Aaron had already told them before [the return of Moses], "O my people, you are only being tested by it, and indeed, your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my order." 90 'We will not cease,' they said, 'to cleave to it, until Moses returns to us.') 91 Moses said to Aaron, "What prevented you, when you saw that they had gone astray, 92 from following me? Why did you disobey my command?" 93 (Aaron) replied: "O son of my mother! Seize (me) not by my beard nor by (the hair of) my head! Truly I feared lest thou shouldst say, 'Thou has caused a division among the children of Israel, and thou didst not respect my word!'" 94 [Musa (Moses)] said: "And what is the matter with you. O Samiri? (i.e. why did you do so?)" 95 He answered: "I saw what the people did not see. So I took a handful of dust from the trail of the Messenger, and I flung it (into the fire). Thus did my mind prompt me." 96 He said: Begone then, surely for you it will be in this life to say, Touch (me) not; and surely there is a threat for you, which shall not be made to fail to you, and look at your god to whose worship you kept (so long); we will certainly burn it, then we will certainly scatter it a (wide) scattering in the sea. 97 Your Ilah (God) is only Allah, the One (La ilaha illa Huwa) (none has the right to be worshipped but He). He has full knowledge of all things. 98 Thus, [O Muhammad], We relate to you from the news of what has preceded. And We have certainly given you from Us the Qur'an. 99 If any do turn away therefrom, verily they will bear a burden on the Day of judgment; 100 They will remain in it forever – what an evil burden it will be for them on the Day of Resurrection! 101 The day when the Trumpet is blown. On that day we assemble the guilty white-eyed (with terror), 102 whispering unto one another, "You have spent but ten [days on earth] 103 We know best what they say, when the fairest of them in course would say: You tarried but a day. 104
