The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Seest thou if he is on (the road of) Guidance?- 11 Or enjoins Righteousness? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
