Yea, indeed, We have created you, and then formed you; and then We said unto the angels, "Prostrate yourselves before Adam!" - whereupon they [all] prostrated themselves, save Iblis: he was not among those who prostrated themselves. 11 Said He, 'What prevented thee to bow thyself, when I commanded thee?' Said he, 'I am better than he; Thou createdst me of fire, and him Thou createdst of clay.' 12 Said Allah, “Therefore go down from here – it does not befit you to stay here and be proud – exit, you are of the degraded.” 13 He said, “Give me respite till the day when people will be resurrected.” 14 Said Allah, “You are given respite.” 15 Then Satan said, "Because You have put me in the wrong, I will lie in ambush for them on Your straight path: 16 then I will surely come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful." 17 [And God] said: "Go forth from here, disgraced and disowned! [And] as for such of them as follow thee - I will most certainly fill hell with you all! 18 'O Adam, inherit, thou and thy wife, the Garden, and eat of where you will, but come not nigh this tree, lest you be of the evildoers.' 19 But Satan tempted them so that he might reveal to them their nakedness which had been hidden from them. He said, "Your Lord has forbidden you to approach this tree lest you should become angels or become of the immortals," 20 Then he said to them on oath: "I am your sincere friend;" 21 So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?" 22 Both replied: 'Lord, We have harmed ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall surely be among the lost' 23 [Allah] said, "Descend, being to one another enemies. And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time." 24 He said: "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)." 25
