When the Messengers came to the family of Lot, 61 He said: "You are people I do not know." 62 They said: Nay, we have come to you with that about which they disputed. 63 "Yet we bring to you the truth, and we are truthful. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came [unto Lot,] rejoicing at the glad tiding. 67 He said, 'These are my guests; put me not to shame, 68 Have fear of Allah, and do not humiliate me." 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 An explosion struck them at sunrise. 73 And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay. 74 Verily, in all this there are messages indeed for those who can read the signs: 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 The dwellers of the Thicket were harmdoers. 78 So We punished them too. They are both situated by the highway, clearly visible. 79
