They will question thee concerning Dhool Karnain. Say: 'I will recite to you a mention of him. 83 Indeed We gave him authority in the land and bestowed him the means of everything. 84 He journeyed on a way 85 Till, when he reached the setting-place of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and found a people thereabout. We said: O Dhu'l-Qarneyn! Either punish or show them kindness. 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 "But whoever believes, and works righteousness,- he shall have a goodly reward, and easy will be his task as We order it by our Command." 88 Then he followed yet another path, 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then followed he (another) way, 92 when he reached between the two barriers he found on one side of them a nation who could barely understand speech. 93 They said, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ravaging this land. Would you establish a barrier between us and them if we pay you a certain tax?" 94 He said, “That which my Lord has given me control over is better, therefore help me with strength – I shall set up a barrier between you and them.” 95 Give me pieces of iron - till, when he had levelled up (the gap) between the cliffs, he said: Blow! - till, when he had made it a fire, he said: Bring me molten copper to pour thereon. 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 Dhu al-Qarnayn said: "This is a mercy from my Lord: but when the time of my Lord's promise shall come, He will level the rampart with the ground. My Lord's promise always comes true." 98 ۞ And We will leave them that day surging over each other, and [then] the Horn will be blown, and We will assemble them in [one] assembly. 99 And We shall bring hell in front of the disbelievers. 100 whose eyes had been veiled against Our Quran and who were not able to hear (its recitation). 101
