The Thamud (people) rejected the messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 Within gardens and springs 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 and do not follow the biddings of those that go to excesses 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 So the torment overtook them. Verily, in this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 158 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 159
