We indeed created man; and We know what his soul whispers within him, and We are nearer to him than the jugular vein. 16 Behold, two (guardian angels) appointed to learn (his doings) learn (and noted them), one sitting on the right and one on the left. 17 Not a word does he (or she) utter, but there is a watcher by him ready (to record it). 18 And the stupor of death will bring Truth (before his eyes): "This was the thing which thou wast trying to escape!" 19 The trumpet will certainly be sounded. This will be the day (about which you) were threatened. 20 And every soul will come, with it a driver and a witness. 21 You were heedless of this, but now We have removed your veil, so your sight today is sharp. 22 And his companion (angel) will say: "Here is (this Record) ready with me!" 23 [Allah will say], "Throw into Hell every obstinate disbeliever, 24 forbidder of good, transgressor and doubter, 25 and an idol worshipper. Throw him into severe torment". 26 ۞ His companion will say: "O Lord, I did not lead him to wickedness, but he was himself far astray." 27 "Do not argue in My presence. I had announced the promise of doom in advance. 28 The Word cannot be changed with Me; I do not wrong My worshipers' 29
