The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of tranquility; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
