These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 you will indeed have to taste of the tree of deadly fruit, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Requital. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Is it ye who shed it from the raincloud, or are We the Shedder? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 It is We who have made it as a reminder and a means of comfort for the people. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
