In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 [the Day] on which the skies shall be rent asunder, [and] His promise [of resurrection] fulfilled? 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
