Alshu'araa' 2 of 11
When your Lord called out to Moses, saying, "Go to the wrongdoing people, 10 and ask them, "Why do you not fear God?" 11 Moses replied, "My Lord, I fear they will reject me, 12 And that my breast will tighten and my tongue will not be fluent, so send for Aaron. 13 Moreover, they keep a grave charge [pending] against me, and I fear that they will slay me." 14 He said, “Not like this (any more); both of you go with Our signs, We are with you, All Hearing.” 15 Go, then, to Pharaoh and say to him: 'The Lord of the Universe has sent us 16 "So allow the Children of Israel to go with us.' " 17 Said Firaun, “Did we do not raise you amongst us, as a child? And you spent many years of your life among us!” 18 "And you did your deed, which you did (i.e. the crime of killing a man). And you are one of the ingrates." 19 Said Moosa, “I did that at a time when I was unaware of the consequences.” (In anger – See verse 28:15) 20 and I fled from you because I feared you. Then my Lord granted me wisdom and made me one of the messengers. 21 Now this is the favour that you tauntingly remind me of: that you enslaved the Children of Israel!" 22 Pharaoh said: 'And what is the Lord of the Worlds' 23 (Moses) said: Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye had but sure belief. 24 'Do you not hear' said he (Pharaoh) to those around him. 25 [And Moses] continued: "[He is] your Sustainer, [too,] as well as the Sustainer of your forefathers of old!" 26 (The Pharaoh) said (to his nobles): "Your apostle who has been sent to you, is certainly mad." 27 [But Moses] went on: "[He of whom I speak is] the Sustainer of the east and the west and of all that is between the two - as you would know]" if you would but use your reason!" 28 Pharaoh said: "If you take any god other than me, I will certainly make you one of those (who are rotting) in prison." 29 (Moses) said: "Even though I have brought to you something convincing?" 30 He (Pharaoh) replied: 'Show us your sign, if you are of the truthful' 31 He cast down his staff and thereupon it was a clear serpent. 32 and he drew his hand (out of his armpit) and lo! it had become a shining object to the beholders. 33
