The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 arise and give warning! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
