The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called As-Sa'ud, or to) face a severe torment! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
