The Human (Al-Insan)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We created man of a sperm-drop, a mingling, and We made him hearing, seeing. 2 Verily, We have shown him the way: [and it rests with him to prove himself] either grateful or ungrateful. 3 We have prepared chains, shackles, and flaming fire (for the disbelievers). 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 From a spring of which the votaries of God will drink and make it flow in abundance. 6 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading, 7 And out of His love, they give food to the needy, the orphan and the prisoner. 8 saying, "We feed you for the sake of God alone, we seek neither recompense nor thanks from you. 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 And so, God will preserve them from the woes of that Day, and will bestow on them brightness and joy, 11 And reward them, because they were patient, with garden and silk, 12 They will recline therein on couches and they will find neither excessive heat nor cold. 13 And the shade thereof is close upon them, and the bunches of fruit thereof will hang low within their reach. 14 And there shall be made to go round about them vessels of silver and goblets which are of glass, 15 Crystal-clear, made of silver. They will determine the measure thereof according to their wishes. 16 and they will be given a cup to drink flavoured with ginger, 17 from a spring named salsabil. 18 ۞ And round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness): If thou seest them, thou wouldst think them scattered Pearls. 19 Whitherto you look around, you will see an abundance of bliss and the glories of a great kingdom. 20 Upon them shall be green garments of silk and brocade; they are adorned with bracelets of silver, and their Lord shall give them to drink a pure draught. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward – indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
