Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his nation, saying: 'Give warning to your nation before a painful punishment overtakes them' 1 He said: O my people! verily I am unto you a warner manifest. 2 “That you must worship Allah and fear Him, and obey me.” 3 That He may forgive some of your sins and prolong your term till an appointed time. Surely when God's appointed time is come it will not be put off, if only you knew! 4 He said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day 5 And my calling hath only increased them in fleeing. 6 And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance. 7 Then I invited them publicly. 8 then indeed I spoke publicly unto them, and I spoke unto them secretly, 9 And I said: ask forgiveness of your Lord; verily He is ever Most Forgiving. 10 He will send you abundant rain from the sky, 11 and give to you wealth and sons, and provide you with gardens and rivers. 12 What aileth you that ye expect not in Allah majesty! 13 While He has created you in stages? 14 Do you not see how God has created the seven heavens one above another, 15 And made the moon therein a light, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah has brought you forth from the (dust of) earth. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 29, Page 97]. 17 And thereafter He will cause you to return thereinto, and He will bring you forth a forthbringing. 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 "'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'" 20
