The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 a servant (of Allah) when he prays? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 and enjoins piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 A forelock that lies, is sinful. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We will call the guards of Hell (to deal with him)! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
