The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
When the sun shall be folded up, 1 And when the stars shall dart down, 2 When the mountains vanish (like a mirage); 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 and when all beasts are gathered together, 5 when the seas shall be set boiling, 6 When the souls are sorted out, (being joined, like with like); 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what sin she was killed, 9 And when the pages are made public 10 the heavens are unveiled, 11 and when the blazing fire [of hell] is kindled bright, 12 And when Paradise shall be brought near, 13 Every soul shall (then) know what it has prepared. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 and the night as it darkly falls, 17 And the morning when it brightens, 18 it is indeed the word of an Honorable Messenger, 19 endowed with power and held in honour by the Lord of the Throne -- 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 (O people of Makkah), your companion is not mad; 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. 25 Whither then will you go? 26 Verily this is no less than a Message to (all) the Worlds: 27 to everyone of you who wills to walk a straight way. 28 Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. 29
