The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
(Muhammad), read in the name of your Lord who created (all things). 1 created Man of a blood-clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or he commandeth piety? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
