The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ IN THE name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely your returning is to your Lord. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We also shall call the infernal guards. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
