The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 In that he looketh upon himself as self-sufficient. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Did you see him who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 or orders piety? 12 Have you seen if he denies and turns away - 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
