The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who hath taught mankind by the pen 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
