The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sunlight is rolled up. 1 And when the stars fall, dispersing, 2 when the mountains shall be set moving, 3 when ten-month pregnant camels are left untended, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 and when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 for what offence was she killed? 9 And when the Writs shall be lain open, 10 And when the heaven has its covering removed, 11 And when Hellfire is set ablaze 12 And Paradise brought near, 13 A soul will [then] know what it has brought [with it]. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 the runners, the sinkers, 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 and the morn as it breathes. 18 This is indeed the recitation of an honoured Noble Messenger. (Angel Jibreel – peace and blessings be upon him.) 19 having power, with the Lord of the Throne secure, 20 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy; 21 For, this fellow-man of yours is not a madman: 22 And he has already seen Gabriel in the clear horizon. 23 Neither doth he withhold grudgingly a knowledge of the Unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This is naught but an admonition unto the worlds 27 For whoever wills among you to take a right course. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
