The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 or if he commands others to maintain piety!? 12 What will happen if the prohibiting rejects the Truth and turns away from it!? 13 Does he not know that Allah does see? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah). ۩ 19
