The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I CALL TO WITNESS those who dive and drag, 1 and gently take it away; 2 and by those that speedily glide along (the cosmos), 3 By the angels hastening, 4 and thus they fulfil the [Creator's] behest! 5 The day the convulsive (first blast) shatters convulsively 6 The second blowing of the Trumpet follows it (and everybody will be raised up), 7 Hearts on that day shall palpitate, 8 and their eyes shall be humbled. 9 They say: 'What, are we being restored as we were before, 10 after we have become bones and dust?" 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 However, it will only take a single blast 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 (Muhammad), have you heard the story of Moses 15 When his Lord called him in the sacred valley of Tuwa, 16 "Go to the Pharaoh who has become refractory, 17 and say [unto him,] 'Art thou desirous of attaining to purity? 18 [If so,] then I shall guide thee towards [a cognition of] thy Sustainer, so that [henceforth] thou wilt stand in awe [of Him].'" 19 Then [Musa (Moses)] showed him the great sign (miracles). 20 But [Fir'aun (Pharaoh)] belied and disobeyed; 21 Then he turned away, deliberating, 22 and gathered his people together 23 and proclaimed, and he said, 'I am your Lord, the Most High!' 24 And thereupon God took him to task, [and made him] a warning example in the life to come as well as in this world. 25 Surely there is a great lesson in it for whoever would fear (Allah). 26
