Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of which was never created in the countries? 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
