The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 What, you build a monument on every hill merely for fun 128 and erect huge palaces as though you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 “He aided you with cattle and sons.” 133 gardens, and springs. 134 'Indeed, I fear for you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 "And we are not the ones to receive Pains and Penalties!" 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
