The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 “Therefore fear Allah, and obey me.” 131 “Fear Him Who has aided you with the things you know.” 132 succoured you with flocks and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 And we are not going to be tormented. 138 Eventually they gave the lie to him and We destroyed them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 139 Your Lord is Majestic and All-merciful. 140
