The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 in a land close by. But, after their defeat they shall become the victors. 3 in a few years. All power belongs to Allah both before and after. On that day will the believers rejoice 4 With the help of Allah; He helps whom He pleases; and He is the Mighty, the Merciful; 5 [This is] God's promise. Never does God fail to fulfill His promise - but most people know [it] not: 6 They know an outward part of the present life, but of the Hereafter they are heedless. 7 Do they not reflect in their own minds? Not but for just ends and for a term appointed, did Allah create the heavens and the earth, and all between them: yet are there truly many among men who deny the meeting with their Lord (at the Resurrection)! 8 What, have they never journeyed in the land and seen what was the end of those before them? They were stronger in might than themselves, and they plowed the land and cultivated it more than they themselves have cultivated it. And to them, their Messengers came with clear signs, and Allah did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. 9 Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them. 10
