Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By oath of this clear Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On that [night] was made clear, in wisdom, the distinction between all things [good and evil] 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 Upon the day when We shall assault most mightily, then We shall take Our vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Give in unto me, O God's bondmen! Verily, I am an apostle [sent] unto you, worthy of trust! 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night you will be pursued.” 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither heaven nor earth shed tears for them; nor were they respited, 29

Notes and Instructions
How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
