The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 The day when they are thrust with a (disdainful) thrust, into the fire of hell 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
