The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 No one can avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This is the Fire which you used to deny. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
