EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say [of you], "A poet for whom we await a misfortune of time?" 30 Say thou: "Wait, [then,] hopefully; behold, I, too, shall hopefully wait with you!" 31 Does their reason tell them to say this or is it because they are a rebellious people? 32 Or do they say: He has forged it. Nay! they do not believe. 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it (the Quran) if they are truthful. 34 Were they created out of nothing, or are they their own creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Are with them the treasures of thy Lord! or are they the dispensers? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or hath He daughters whereas ye have sons? 39 Or, do you ask them for a wage, so that they become weighed down in debt? 40 Or, is the Unseen in their keeping, so they are writing it down? 41 Or do they want to entrap [thee in contradictions]? But they who are bent on denying the truth - it is they who are truly entrapped! 42 Or have they any god beside Allah? Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him)! 43 Even if they were to see a part of the heavens falling down upon them, they would say, "It is only dense cloud". 44 So leave them alone till they meet their Day, in which they will sink into a fainting (with horror). 45 A Day whereon their plotting will avail them not at all, nor will they be succoured. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 Be patient, then, (O Prophet), until the judgement of your Lord comes. For surely you are before Our eyes. And celebrate the praise of your Lord when you rise, 48 and exalt Him in the night and at the declining of the stars. 49
