The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and banana trees, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
