The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
