A multitude of those of old 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 But those of the left hand -- how those of the left hand -- 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 For, behold, in times gone by they were wont to abandon themselves wholly to the pursuit of pleasures, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say, "Indeed, the earlier ones and the later ones 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This will be their welcome on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will, We would make it broken stubble and you would remain wondering, 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Rather, we have been prevented' 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
