I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 As a warning unto men, 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds; 38 Except those of the right hand 39 In Gardens, they seek answers, 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 And we used to deny the Day of Recompense 46 "Until there came to us (the Hour) that is certain." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 As they were frightened asses 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Nay, but they do not [believe in and hence, do not] fear the life to come. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 So whosoever willeth may heed it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
