He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who was indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what [stuff] has He created him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
