Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In a lofty garden, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 Therein will be a running spring, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and prepared goblets, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And linen spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a watcher over them; 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
